I am an angry driver

I have decided that I am an angry driver. Or maybe most of the other drivers on the road are just idiots. I don't drive overly fast nor am I often in a hurry, but to me a stoplight is an annoyance. It's an interruption to my getting from point A to point B. I sit at the light, watching it intently, wishing it would hurry up and change. Some people, however, regard stoplights as a way to take a break from the hassles of driving. You've seen them in front of you at the light looking for something they must have lost inside their car, or maybe doing a little sightseeing, birdwatching, napping, whatever. At any rate they never seem to notice when the light turns green. I wish I could just drive over them and be on my way. I bet these are the same people who don't use their turn signals. Don't even get me started on that.

A Rough Patch

My family has had a rough year so far. In early January my uncle (mom's brother) died unexpectedly. Last week my aunt (mom's brother's wife) died after a bout with cancer The day of my aunt's funeral my grandmother fell down and broke her hip. So she is recovering from hip-replacement surgery. I've only been to four funerals in my life. Two of them have been this year. It makes me realize how fast life is really moving.

A Real Tragedy

My heart goes out to all the victims of Hurricane Katrina. I honestly don't know how you get through something like this, but I have no doubt that people will persevere. It really turns my stomach to hear about the looting and violence taking place in New Orleans. In the midst of this tragedy we have some taking advantage of other people's loss. This is truly a sad day for America.

I got a new book today. I can't wait until May 19. I think I will wait to see the movie before I read the book.

Hard Drive Woes

So last Friday I discovered that my hard drive was failing. I noticed that Windows took much longer than usual to boot and that there were long periods of zero hard drive activity (even though the hard drive LED was on). So I made a PowerMax boot floppy and, indeed, I got an error code. It's under warranty for another month so I arranged an RMA with Maxtor and I just received my replacemt (refurbished!) drive today. I'm actually impressed that it made it from Malaysia to Arkansas in 2 days. Not too bad. So now I get to install the drive and do a direct copy of old drive. I hope everything goes well.

I hate computers!

I am a geek. I am the one everyone calls on to help with their computer woes. I have always been fascinated with technology. Yet I hate computers. Ok, not really, but that is something I say on a regular basis. What I really hate is when computers don't work like they should. Just last weekend I was trying to help a friend fix a broken computer. It appeared that a flawed Zone Alarm installation had just screwed everything up. Windows Update would not work. Zone Alarm could not be uninstalled nor could it be reinstalled. So a complete system restore was required. Things like that frustrate me. Anyway, this is my little blog. Enjoy.
